Celebrating Our First Fight: A Milestone for Roots Muay Thai Academy

Updated: Jun 11

This past weekend marked a powerful milestone for Roots Muay Thai Academy as we stepped into the competitive arena for the very first time at Canadian Fight League 8. It was an unforgettable night, not just for our gym, but for our entire community—and especially for Cait MacNaughtan, who represented us with heart, discipline, and a deep respect for the art.

Cait's First Fight at Canadian Fight League 8

This was Cait’s inaugural fight, and she rose to the occasion with incredible composure and grit. Each round was competitive, filled with strong moments on both sides—an exciting bout defined by intensity and pressure. Cait found her rhythm early, winning the exchanges in round one and building momentum through rounds two and three. She pushed forward with clarity, demonstrating sharp decision-making in tight moments, ultimately earning a well-deserved unanimous decision victory.

The Importance of Support

One of the most powerful parts of the night was the unwavering support from the community. We were proud to have a dedicated crew in her corner and in the crowd. Carter, Anthony, Sajad, Luca, Dave and his daughter Mila, Lindsey, Brad, James and his family, Jayce, Yevgeni, Adam, Aiden, and Rachel—thank you for being there. Your support represented the gym with pride and reminded us all what this community is built on. It truly lifted the entire night.

Performing the Wai Kru Ram Muay

Before the first bell rang, Cait set the tone by performing the Wai Kru Ram Muay with intention and grace. This moment resonated with many in attendance and drew praise from respected members of the Ontario Muay Thai community. We are grateful for their kind words and recognition. Such feedback is meaningful as it aligns with our mission: to build a place rooted in tradition, purpose, and dedication.

The Impact of Live Competition

This event ignited a fire within our academy. For many of our members, it was their first time witnessing a live Muay Thai event. Watching a teammate compete brought the sport into vivid focus. It’s real, it’s powerful, and it’s attainable. If you've ever considered stepping into sparring or working toward competition, let this moment be your inspiration. The ring isn’t just for others—it’s for anyone willing to dedicate themselves to the journey.

Looking Ahead

Thank you to Canadian Fight League for organizing a smooth and well-run event. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our members and extended family for their unwavering support.

This was our first fight, but it is far from the last.

We’re just getting started.

If you're considering joining us in this incredible sport, connect with our community. Together, we can achieve greatness and make memories that will last a lifetime. Let's continue to uplift each other as we embark on this exciting journey in Muay Thai.
